Programme : Beethoven: Piano trio Op. 70 No. 1 (Ghost)
The nickname ‘Ghost’ for the first of the Op. 70 trios, came most probably from Carl Czerny, Beethoven’s pupil. Czerny wrote that the haunting second movement reminded him of the appearance of Banquo’s ghost from Macbeth.
Trio Leos was founded in 2013 by Jean-Michel Dayez with Guillaume Lafeuille, cello and Pablo Schatzman, violin. They take the name from Leoš Janáček, but the mainstay of their repertoire are the complete Beethoven trios. Jean-Michel Dayez has frequently been to India as part of Artie’s festival.
This film was recorded at Opera de Lille and will be available for a few weeks.
