Roberto Prosseda, pedal piano
Programme: Schumann: 4 Sketches for Pedal Piano Op. 58, 6 Studies in Canon form for Pedal Piano Op. 56
A nineteenth century invention, the Pedal piano is effectively 2 pianos played by the same pianist, one played by the hands and the other played by the feet. A bit similar to the organ, this instrument is certainly not as popular. Yet, composers like Schumann, Liszt, Alkan and Gounod composed some music for this very complicated instrument.
Roberto Prosseda is a leading exponent of the Pedal Piano and performs on this specially designed extra pedal keyboard built by the Italian master piano maker Fazioli.
