God’s Fiddler Jascha Heifetz – A Film by Peter Rosen
Jascha Heifetz (1901-1987) was considered by many to be the greatest violinist since Paganini. A pupil of Leopold Auer, Heifetz was a legend in his lifetime. He made his debut in his native Russia at the age of seven playing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto and at the age of sixteen at Carnegie Hall in New York. In 1925, Heifetz became a US citizen and never lost his patriotism.
This film traces Heifetz’s early life, the war years, his talent as an actor, composer, pianist and his later years in Malibu with commentary by fellow violinists, his numerous students, companions and biographers. This film shows rare footage never seen before.
