Musical Greeting from Reunion Island – Mounawar
In association with Alliance Française de Pune
Naturally driven by curiosity, Mounawar likes to experiment in all fields of world music. The root of his musical expressions, stems from his early childhood under the influence of Twarab and M’godro traditions, through which he has developed his singularity and sense of improvisation. Musical beats played by the great artists heard in Comores via the airwaves also play a big part for him in the early days.
As a childhood dreamer, Mounawar understands how the geographic insulation and politics of his island can be so well addressed through music. In early adulthood, he decides to pursue his career as an artist and moves to the neighbouring island of La Réunion.
He is never tired of exploring different musical styles, combining the singularity of his voice with poetic and meaningful lyrics. His music entwines ternary and binary rhythms leading his audience on a global journey through an extraordinary contrast of power and tenderness.
Singer songwriter, his first album Sawa is published in 2012 and his second album is published in 2016.
His concert revisits tracks from his first album but also includes new material accompanied by a bass player and drummer. Diverse theatrical and cinematographic professional experience can be felt through his immense presence on stage. Confident and spontaneous like the great jazzmen of our time, he takes his public on a magical journey through world music beats mixing soul, funk, pop rock, afro beat and Twarab, in a melting pot of tongues, from Comorien to French and Creole.
