 as both\, a pianist and lecturer. His research interests include the piano
  music and pianism of Busoni\, The Creative Transcription Network and the 
 history of piano recital programming. Curiously\, the words virtue and vir
 tuosity come from the same Latin root virtus which signified qualities of 
 valour and manliness.This recital explores Classical\, Romantic and early 
 20th century ideas of pianistic virtuosity\, from Haydn who was writing fo
 r the most technologically advanced instrument the world had ever known\, 
 via Romantic rivals Liszt and Alkan\, to Ravel and Busoni\, the latter of 
 whom wryly noted that 'to be more than a virtuoso\, first one has to be a 
 virtuoso'!
