SUMMARY:Arties Festival - Quatuor Ebène (Pierre Colombet\, Gabriel Le Maga
 dure\, violins / Mathieu Herzog\, viola / Raphaël Merlin\, cello) / Romai
 n Descharmes\, piano / Gauthier Herrmann\, cello
DESCRIPTION:Arties Festival is now in its 11th edition. Its popularity has
grown over the years\, and it brings the finest young musicians to India.
Arties musicians are multifaceted artists who share a passion for music an
d travel. They have all won several international contests\, play on some
of the most prestigious stages worldwide\, and love to travel to India.\n\
nQuatuor Ebène has grown to become one of today’s foremost quartets on
the international scene. Recently\, they were specially selected to take p
art in the BBC’s esteemed “New Generation Artists” scheme\, closely
supported by the Borletti-Buitoni Foundation\, which sponsored their first
\, critically acclaimed live recording of works by Haydn as well as a seco
nd CD devoted to works of Bartók.\n\nThe quartet has been heard throughou
t Europe\, Asia and the United States in some of the most prestigious conc
 ert halls including Vienna’s Musikverein\, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw\,
Berlin’s Philarmonie and New York’s Carnegie Hall. In 2009 the Ebène
s were also featured as part of Wigmore Hall’s Haydn Cycle in London\, a
longside the Hagen\, Emerson and Arcanto quartets.\n\nThese four French mu
sicians have class and are perhaps the most creative ensemble on the inter
national chamber music scene today. No other quartet moves with such ease
and enthusiasm between different styles and\, even if the foursome only ra
rely presents live programmes that combine classical music and Jazz.\n\nRo
main Descharmes was born in Nancy\, France. He began piano studies at the
Conservatoire Régional du Grand Nancy\, where he won\, at age 14\, a gold
medal in 1996. In 1998\, he moved to Paris and studied at the Paris Conse
rvatoire. Romain Descharmes was awarded First Prize in the Dublin Internat
ional Piano Competition in 2006\, leading him to perform recitals all over
the world. He is much sought after as a chamber musician and has been a f
requent member of Arties Festival.\n\nGauthier Herrmann started studying c
ello at the age of eight with Nicole Daihnaut. In 1998\, he joined the cla
ss of Marcel Bardon in the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris (CNR) where h
e obtained a first prize in cello in 2000. Gauthier was quickly destined f
or chamber music and founded the Trio con Fuoco which won several prizes a
nd has travelled all over the world. Gauthier started visting India in 200
1 and in 2008\, created Arties Festival which has brought outstanding musi
cians from Europe to play chamber music in India.\n\n
