  continued to exemplify the greatest standards of the rich Hungarian music
 al tradition which it has carried on with such extraordinary distinction t
 hroughout the world over four decades of international appearances.The ori
 ginal Quartet was founded in 1966 by four students of the Ferenc Liszt Aca
 demy in Budapest as a continuation of the great Hungarian string quartet t
 radition. In 1968\, the ensemble\, called the 'Sebesty&eacute\;n Quartet'\
 , won the first prize at the International Leo Weiner String Quartet Compe
 tition in Budapest. By 1971\, the Quartet had established an international
  reputation\, and in that year changed its name to 'Kod&aacute\;ly Quartet
 ' in honour of the outstanding twentieth-century Hungarian composer. The p
 resent members of Kod&aacute\;ly Quartet have performed with many great mu
 sicians like Bruno Canino\, Milan Turkovic\, Mikl&oacute\;s Per&eacute\;ny
 i\, Zolt&aacute\;n Kocsis\, Michel Portal\, Dimitry Ashkenazy\, Michel B&e
 acute\;roff\, Jeremy Menuhin\, Tam&aacute\;s V&aacute\;s&aacute\;ry\, Jen&
 otilde\; Jand&oacute\; and Dimitris Sgouros. The Quartet has participated 
 in many festivals and has recorded some 60 CDs. Among these are the entire
  string quartet cycles by Haydn\, Beethoven and Schubert.
