The Latination is India’s only virtuoso and genuine Latin jazz outfit, a powerful and soulful collaboration between French and Indian specialists of jazz and Latin music. Its repertoire ranges from the festive sounds of salsa and rumba to modern jazz, blending the dance-compelling power of Afro-Latin rhythms with the intellectual streams of dense harmonies and sophisticated melodies, the discreet sweetness of jazz ballads and Latin boleros with virtuoso improvisations and solo performances.
Emmanuel Simon is a versatile musician from Paris, France, performing Jazz, Latin-American, World, Fusion, and other Western modern music fields as well as composing for theatre and short-films. Regarding Latin music, Emmanuel has specialized in many kinds of Afro-Cuban percussions and learned in different academies of music in France from various Latin masters such as Abraham Mansfaroll, Fred ”El Pulpo” Savinien, Carlos ”Kutimba” Esposito, Simon Ville, etc. He has performed with many veteran artists of Latin music such as Franklin Lozada, Cuchy Almeida, Luis Viloria, Sebastian Jimenez, Martin Fuenmayor, Carlos Miguel, etc. He has been performing in Europe and South Asia, collaborating with many different artists.
Pradyumna Singh Manot a.k.a. Paddy is one of India’s most talented jazzmen and piano player. He started his life in music on the piano at the age of six. He has performed with many Jazz artists such as American Jazz Singer Clare Michaud, Canadian Trombonist Alistair Kay (Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, etc.) and star bassist Steve Zerlin, Alex Stuart and Indian guitar legend Sumith Ramachandran, among others. Paddy is also a founder member of the Latin-jazz bands Los Amigos (with Indian master percussionist Monojit Datta) and Jazzeando. Pradyumna has given many concerts with Indian musicians such as Grammy winner Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Ustad Rashid Khan, Ustad Sabir Khan, Pandit Vikku Vinayakram and Ustad Taufique Quereshi among others.
Premjit Dutta is a bright percussionist of a new generation. He started his musical journey training on tabla, graduated eventually receiving Sangeet Bisharod in Tabla from Bangiya Sangeet Parishad. He then started studying Western music, graduating in Drumkit and Theory of Music with distinction from Trinity College London and Royal College. He has also been studying authentic Afro-Cuban percussion for the past 9 years from the veteran conguero Monojit Datta. He is currently working with alternative indie outfit Camouflage (brit-pop), jazz-funk band No Idea, the Big Family Blues Ensemble, to name a few. He is also a regular artist with All India Radio.
Bijit Bhattacharya is one of the most talented bass players in Kolkata, actively involved in studio sessions as well as the live music scene. He has been a permanent member of bands like Safire, Catch 22, and others. He has also performed with nationally acclaimed folk-fusion act Friends of Fusion, but also with Latin act Nukkad Salsa Project, Crayon Joint and many more. He has been playing sessions with and for film-maker Anjan Dutt, singer songwriter Anupam Roy and music director Neel Dutt. Bijit is currently making music with Charon, Bee & The Buskers, etc.
