Marouan Benabdallah, piano
In a programme of pieces from The Book of Sounds by Hans Otte
Hans Otte was recognised as a piano and organ prodigy in Germany. After the Second World War, he got a grant from the United States to study organ with Fernando Germani and composition with Paul Hindemith at Yale University. Later he returned to Germany and went on to study piano between 1954 and 1956 with Walter Gieseking. In 1959, Otte was offered a job as department head of classical music by Radio Bremen and soon founded two festivals which proved of historical importance: Pro musica antiqua, dedicated to Early Music, and Pro musica nova, dedicated with New Music. Book of Sounds is a series of 10 pieces for solo piano, minimalistic, but with traditional tonality in serialist textures.
Marouan Benabdallah hardly needs any introduction to Pune audiences. Trained in Hungary in the Hungarian tradition, he has appeared as pianist on stages in America, Europe and Asia.
