shah No. 3\n\nIn association with Balassi Institute\n\n\n\nNot yet thirty-
five\, acclaimed pianist Marouan Benabdallah is indisputably the leading r
epresentative of his native Morocco on the international concert stage\, h
aving recently performed debut recitals at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall\,
the Kennedy Center\, the Aspen Music Festival\, Teatro Colon with the Bue
nos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra\, the Castleton Festival Orchestra under
the baton of Lorin Maazel.\n\nWith a musical heritage deeply rooted in the
Hungarian tradition\, Mr. Benabdallah received his formal training at the
Bela Bartok Conservatory and the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest\, and in
2008\, was presented with the Medal of the Hungarian Parliament for his a
chievement in music – an honor he shares with such artists as Placido Do
mingo\, José Cura and others.\n\nAfter being awarded the First Prize at n
early every major competition in his native Morocco by age 13\, Mr. Benabd
allah first attracted international attention in 2003\, following his triu
mphs at the Hungarian Radio Piano Competition\, the Andorra Grand Prize\,
and shortly after\, the Naples International Piano Competition.  His succ
esses quickly lead to performances in Germany\, Austria\, China\, Spain\,
the United States\, the United Kingdom\, France and Italy\, among others.
More recently\, Marouan Benabdallah was a prizewinner at the Arthur Rubins
tein Master Competition in Tel-Aviv\, Israel\, where the local media procl
aimed his playing “miraculous” (Maariv).\n\nMarouan Benabdallah’s
“stunning natural virtuosity” (Nice -Matin\, France) and “delicate s
tylishness” (Cleveland Plain Dealer) placed him as soloist in front of n
umerous orchestras in Europe\, Asia and the United States\, including the
Budapest Symphony Orchestra\, Beijing Symphony Orchestra\, Cannes Symphony
Orchestra\, Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra\, Hilton Head Symphony Orc

; an extensive tour of India that featured the young pianist in a recital
setting and as soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of India in performance
s of Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1\; appearance with the Philharmonic Orc

by Boris Brott\, a recital at the Aspen Music Festival and a performance o
f Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Castleton Festival Orchestra on
the season’s finale concert under the direction of Lorin Maazel.  The W
ashington Times later wrote of Benabdallah’s collaboration with Maazel:
“Mr. Benabdallah performed the work with great vigor and precision\, dis
playing professionalism\, assurance\, and poise while still bringing out t
he flashiness that’s a hallmark of this driving concerto.”\n\nNotably\
, in 2011 Marouan Benabdallah gave his debut at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel H
all\, prompting the New York Times to praise his “resourceful pianism\,
lyrical instincts and thoughtfulness.” The attending Anthony Tommasini w
ent on to write: “[Marouan Benabdallah] played with rich colorings and f
lair\, and brought tenderness to the lyrical musings and vigor to the burs
ts of chords and dizzying passagework. How he managed to memorize music th
at seems such a succession of arbitrary ideas is beyond me.”   Shortly
after\, Benabdallah took the stage at the Kennedy Center for his debut at
the famed hall as part of the Hayes Series\, presented by the Washington
Performing Arts Society.  Reporting on the performance\, the Washington P
ost commended the young pianist for his “keyboard agility\, even touch a
nd ability to highlight a single voice in the midst of a complicated textu
re\,” as well as his "rhythmic energy and a compelling sense of momentum
."\n\nAlthough still on the onset of his career\, Marouan Benabdallah has
been acclaimed for his “cultivated sense of architecture and harmonic im
plication” (Cleveland Plain Dealer)\, “stunning interpretation [Liszt]
” (Le Journal Saône-et-Loire)\, “sheer ease and mastery of the piano
” (Metrolife)\, “skillful control” (Daily Times) and a “stunning v
irtuosity…devoid of smoke and mirrors” (The Nice -Matin).  However\,
his acclaim is not limited to the press.  He has been described by legend
ary pianist Ferenc Rados\, who served as a mentor to the young artist\, as
a “remarkable musician”\, while famed pianist Daniel Barenboim commen
ded his “spontaneity” and “natural playing.”  With an ever-growin
g reputation\, Mr. Benabdallah has been presented before such luminaries a
s Zubin Mehta\, Ivan Fischer and Antonio Pappano\, has been invited to per
form for former First Lady Laura Bush\, and is enjoying an exponentially g
rowing schedule.\n\nPossessing a deep musical interest that exceeds the co
nfines of his instrument\, Mr. Benabdallah also trained as a conductor dur
ing his studies at the Bela Bartok Conservatory\, where he was a student o
f Gabor Eckhardt.  In 2007\, he received his diploma from the Franz Liszt
Academy under the guidance of Sandor Falvai and Kalman Drafi after a triu
mphant performance of Rachmaninoff’s Third piano concerto.\n\nMarouan Be
nabdallah makes his home between Paris\, Budapest\, Rabat and Washington D
 .C. Marouan Benabdallah is a "Yamaha Artist".\n\nhttp://www.marouan.org/ma
