 tewart launched his career in 1981\, appearing with the Toronto Symphony i
 n a critically acclaimed performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.
  1. Since then he has appeared as guest‐soloist with major orchestras wo
 rldwide\, and in recital throughout Canada\, the United States (including 
 Carnegie Hall\, New York and the Kennedy Center\, Washington)\, Mexico\, S
 outh America\, the United Kingdom\, Europe\, South Africa and Asia. He has
  a special affection for India\, where he has played and travelled widely 
 for many years. In 1996\, his British début in London’s Wigmore Hall wa
 s broadcast live by the BBC\, and a performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano 
 Concerto No. 4 with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra was heard througho
 ut Russia and subsequently released on a bestselling CD.\n\nOther recordin
 gs include works by Beethoven\, Britten\, Elgar\, Honegger\, Liszt\, Proko
 fiev\, Ravel\, Schubert and Strauss. For Grand Piano (Naxos) he is current
 ly recording\, on 4 CDs\, the complete piano sonatas of Nikolay Medtner\, 
 a composer he has championed and performed on five continents. «A deeply
