Federico Guglielmo, violin
Roberto Loreggian, harpsichord

In association with Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, Mumbai

In a programme of Nicola Matteis: Passaggio rotto e Andamento veloce for solo violin (from “Ayres for the Violini”, London, 1676); Giuseppe Tartini: Sonata in G minor minor for violin and basso Op. 1 No. 10 (B.g10) “Didone abbandonata”; Antonio Vivaldi / Johann Sebastian Bach: Concerto in F major for solo harpsichord BWV978 (transcription from the original for violin, strings and continuo Op. 3 No. 3) and Antonio Vivaldi: Sonata IV in D major for violin and continuo RV755 (from Sonatas for Cardinale Pietro Ottoboni, msc. Manchester)

The final installment of Io Suono Italiano, a series of six recorded concerts, specially curated for The Poona Music Society, will have a selection of music of the most important Italian Baroque composers. Vivaldi and Tartini are household names. Less so Nicola Matteis, whose piece for solo violin will make a great introduction to this recital.

Federico Guglielmo is undoubtedly one of the leading Italian violin virtuosos practising baroque and modern traditions. Winner of the Antonio Vivaldi International Recording Prize, the Boston Globe describes him as “the new star of the ancient music landscape” while the French music magazine Diapason, which awarded him the Diapason d’Or for his recording of Vivaldi concertos, praised his “sparkling virtuosity which provides a cross section of everything of which the violin is capable”. He obtained his diploma from the Marcello Conservatory in Venice and then attended violin masterclasses with Salvatore Accardo, Vladimir Spivakov and Isaac Stern. As both a baroque /classical /modern violin soloist and as a conductor he is regularly invited to perform by major ensembles worldwide. As a baroque violinist /conductor he led the renowned Academy of Ancient Music on tour in England and was subsequently invited by groups such as The Handel & Haydn Society of Boston, the Tokyo Vivaldi Ensemble and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. He has also led and played as soloist with Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra del Teatro Massimo, Palermo, Accademia Nazionale di S.Cecilia, Rome, New Japan Philharmonic, Osaka Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Filarmonica de Gran Canaria and many more.

Roberto Loreggian perfected his talents at the Conservatory of The Hague (NL) under the direction of Ton Koopman. His expertise on the harpsichord led him to perform with the most important festivals and ensembles like Orchestra dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Chamber Orchestra of Mantova, the Orchestra di Padova  e del Veneto, I Virtuosi Italiani, L’Arte Dell’Arco, I Barocchisti and others. He has recorded numerous CDs for record labels such as Chandos, Tactus, Arts and others which have been internationally acclaimed. He has recorded the complete collection of keyboard music by G. Frescobaldi, for Brilliant Classics, the complete keyboard music of A. Gabrieli, the complete Harpsichord concertos of B. Galuppi and the harpsichord music of G. F. Handel. His recordings devoted to harpsichord music by B. Pasquini (Chandos Chaconne) and by G. B. Ferrini (Tactus) received the award ‘Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik’. He teaches at the Conservatory ‘C. Pollini’ in Padova, Italy.

This film will be available for a few weeks.
