About this event

Suka and Sarangi, ancient musical instruments, creating music for XXI Century

In association with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland

29th-november-email-notice-web

Prof. Maria Pomianowska travelled to Delhi to learn Indian classical music, from Ustad Sabri Khan and Pt. Ram Narayan in 1984. Back in Poland, thanks to Indian experiences, Maria reconstructed the forgotten Polish instrument Suka, very similar to Sarangi which has not existed in Polish music for the last 100 years.

Ustad Ikram Khan son of legendary Ustad Nizamuddin Khan, who was also a very famous sarangi player from Jaipur is one of a leading solo Sarangi Maestro of India today.

In this project, these two great Musicians will be making music together with the ancient sound of Poland, SUKA, and the soul of Indian sound, SARANGI, in close soulful dialogues. They will also be accompanied by Polish students Aleksandra Kauf and Karolina Matuszkiewicz learning Polish traditional music from Maria Pomianowska and Indian student Shaheen Parvez who is learning Indian classical music from Ikram Khan and also accompanied by Rahul Pophali tabla maestro. This concert will be great meeting of two cultures and two generations.
